I have the bad luck to be a Mets fan, so when Shea Stadium closed and I got the dogs shortly afterwards I knew I wanted to name one Shea. I wanted a name that "went with" Shea for her sister, but not something really obvious (like Shea and Shirley). I couldn't think of something else Mets-related, but my elementary school, St. Joseph's School closed around the same time Shea Stadium closed. So I went with Josie. The connection between the two is a little obscure, - both named after things that closed that were important to me - but at least Shea and Josie sound nice together (I think anyway :) My dogs are sisters named Shea and Josie. Our newest, Bella, came with her name, but we added Mae to the end of it after our dog Sadie Mae who passed away last year. The other four dogs are from a litter one of our old dogs had (who also passed away, 4 wks. after the puppies were born). Puffa got her name because she is all white with just a tiny tiny dark spot at the end of her tail - like a cigarette. My brother in law named her. Chunk got her name because she was the chunkiest as a pup, and Missy my stepfather's mother named. Harry is the only boy, and we struggled with a name for him for weeks. We called him horizontal, because he always fed upside down, but didn't like it for a real name. I came up with Harold, to match the H from horizontal, but we usually call him by the nickname Harry. His name came from the new revamped Battlestar Galactica sci-fi television show. One of the characters was a pilot and his name was Helo. Thought that was a totally cool name and wrote it down and kept it on hold. Then when got a new male puppers I thought that Helo was good for an agility dog name since Helo makes you think of Helicopter/Fast flying, etc. etc. and how that goes good with how fast dogs run around doing agility. And also researched the name in greek mythology and Helios has something to do with a god riding in a golden chariot with red flaming horses driving it, all going along with the flying theme and red coloring like him, so I thought it all went together very well....and now you know the rest of the story ;-) Helo, a 5 month old Red tri Australian Shepherd….

We adopted him when he was 4. I can't remember what name he came to us with but it really didn't suit him. We started calling him Puppy while we thought of an appropriate name. We ran through several dozen names but couldn't agree. After a year of tossing names around, we realized he was answering to the name of Puppy so we gave up on trying to rename him.
